• Pedestrian dies after Santa Cruz hit-and-run; driver arrested, police say (ksbw.com) — A 30-year-old pedestrian has died after being struck in a Friday night hit-and-run on Mission Street in Santa Cruz, and police have arrested the 39-year-old driver on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and drug possession. The victim died Sunday at the hospital, and investigators are asking anyone who saw the collision near 1700 Mission Street to contact the Santa Cruz Police Department.
   

• Santa Cruz considers ending Flock contract over data sharing concerns (ksbw.com) — Santa Cruz city leaders are weighing whether to end their contract with Flock’s license plate reader cameras after learning out-of-state agencies, including ICE, accessed local data. Residents and the vice mayor are raising privacy and legal concerns, though a city report leaves the door open to keeping ALPR technology with tighter safeguards. The council will debate the issue at today’s 2:30 p.m. meeting.
   

• Santa Cruz couple allegedly steals $18,000 in jewelry from downtown store (ksbw.com) — Santa Cruz police are investigating a couple accused of using a distraction scheme to steal about $18,000 in gold necklaces from the Golden Bliss jewelry store downtown, a theft caught on camera. The same owner, who also runs Super Silver, recently suffered a large theft at a Sacramento location, heightening concern for local jewelers.
