Search For New UC President Underway

UC President Janet Napolitano announced on Sept. 18 that she is stepping down at the end of the academic year.

CALIFORNIA — A "special committee" of members of the University of California Board of Regents has been appointed to help gather information to help inform the selection of a new UC president, board chairman John Perez announced Friday.

Regents Gareth Elliott, Sherry Lansing, Michael Cohen, Lark Park, Cecilia Estolano and Richard Sherman have been named to the committee, as have Student Regent Hayley Weddle and Alumni Regent William Um. Perez and Gov. Gavin Newsom will serve as ex officio members.

An executive search firm will be engaged to help identify candidates to succeed Napolitano, and will oversee a national search.
