Grammy-Nominated Singer Found Stabbed To Death In Santa Monica Home, Son Arrested
The man's 31-year-old son has been arrested, police say.
SANTA MONICA, CA — A Grammy-nominated singer was stabbed to death inside a home in the Pico neighborhood of Santa Monica on Monday, and his son has been arrested, police say.
Police got a 911 call about an assault at 18th Street and Delaware Avenue just before 9:30 p.m., the Santa Monica Police Department said.
After arriving, officers spoke with the 911 caller, who directed them into the home, where they found Jubilant Sykes, 71, "with critical injuries consistent with a stabbing," police said.

Rescuers with the Santa Monica Fire Department pronounced the man dead on scene, police said.
Video of the scene from NBC Los Angeles shows the home roped off with crime scene tape and officers bustling both inside and outside the residence.

Jubilant Sykes' son, 31-year-old Micah Sykes, was identified as a suspect and detained at the home, police said.
"The suspect will be booked for homicide, and the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration," police said.
Jail records show Micah Sykes was booked into jail Tuesday. He is being held on $2 million bail and scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
An investigation is ongoing, according to police.
Jubilant Sykes is a Grammy-nominated opera and jazz singer, according to his website.
Jubilant Sykes was "known for bringing a unique dimension to the traditional career of the classically trained vocalist by drawing on gospel, jazz and folk influences to deliver performances in differing musical genre," his website says.
He performed on a wide array of stages, including the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Deutsche Oper Berlin.
