Bashful

LCA blasted Delphi Academy in three sets of girls volleyball Thursday.

By Michael Ashcraft --

Jill was extremely bashful Thursday.

She was bashing balls from center net, from outside, from back row. She even bashed seven serves in a row for seven points in Game to open a gap between her team, the Lighthouse Christian Academy, and Delphi Academy of Lakeview Terrace.

Only Russia and China have operational hypersonic missiles on the world stage. Add to that Jillian Jenkins, who bashed seven hypersonic kills to lift the Saints over Delphi in three sets: 25-07, 25-15, 25-10.

Her aim or timing was off Tuesday. Her hard hits went long.

Jill dialed in those hard shots Thursday to achieve the desired downward angle, bedeviling the poor Delphi girls.

"I did a lot of practice," Jillian says. "I was really trying to get on top of the ball."

Two girls from the supporting cast got featured to good effect on Thursday. Freshman Bethania Wonagseged executed hits from outside of her normal position (center). She connected solidly as outside hitter and then from opposite.

"Bethania is a good player. She has a lot of potential," said Coach Jessica Young. "She can actually hit really well, serve really well, and she's a good passer against harder teams."

Lilah Hosni, also a freshman, managed a backrow hit. "If she could jump a little higher, she'd be a great hitter."

Freshman Eden Garcia also stood out. In Game 1, she served 13 times in a row for points.
