Venerable Costume Shop In Santa Monica Will Shutter After Nearly 5 Decades

SANTA MONICA, CA — Ursula’s Costumes, which has served Hollywood productions and costume-party revelers since 1976, will close its doors after Halloween this year.

"We will be closing our doors after 48 years of costuming for the public and film industry," the store, located at 2516 Wilshire Blvd., wrote in a social media post.

Owner Ursula Boschet, 90, said she decided to close her shop largely due to competition from Amazon and also cited the recent Hollywood strikes, the pandemic and her age in an interview with NBC Los Angeles.

"I've worked all my life," she said. "Every day you can see me here."

Boschet has worked as a tailor since she was 14 in postwar Germany.

The store is discounting items as much as 50 percent off as part of its going-out-of-business sale. Up for grabs ar costumes Boschet crafted herself for film and TV productions.
