Celebrating Community at La Luz's Cinco De Mayo

Community leaders, students and parents gathered at La Luz for an early Cinco de Mayo celebration with crafts, dancing and a whole lot of food.

Community leaders, students and parents gathered at La Luz for an early Cinco de Mayo celebration with crafts, dancing and a whole lot of food.

Though the event is usually held on the Sonoma Plaza, for economic reasons, the community celebration - which benefited La Luz's scholarship funds - was held at La Luz's facilities.

"It's smaller, but it's just more about the community," said Maricarmen Reyes Larios.

"People were shocked that they were gonna have it here," said Mary Carver, a La Luz volunteer, "It's a fundraiser for all these schools, so it's good that the money will go directly to them."
