Quick Peek: Census Counts Show Sonoma's Population Grew 16.7 Percent Over Past Decade
Surprising growth outpaces other Sonoma County municipalities.
Figures released Tuesday from the 2010 Census show that Sonoma's population grew almost 17 percent over the decade, contrary to preliminary estimates, which predicted just a 9.6 percent population uptick.
Overall, the city's population grew to 10,648 in 2010, an increase of 1,520 people, or 16.7 percent, since 2000.
Surprisingly, this data places Sonoma at a faster rate of growth than other Sonoma County municipalities, other than Cotati (26 percent) and Windsor (17.8 percent).
