SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- A police employee impersonator has been calling registered sex offenders in Santa Rosa and demanding personal information over the phone.

Police said Tuesday that the impersonator is calling from a number that has been manipulated to impersonate, or "spoof" a real police phone number.

Police said they will never demand information or payment over the phone. Information is requested during official, in-person meetings, police said.
