Tri-City Man Killed In Crash With Parked Car

Police arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI.

NEWARK, CA — Newark police arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence after a collision late Saturday killed one of three passengers in his vehicle.

Officers from the Newark Police Department and members of the Alameda County Fire Department responded to an 11:20 p.m. report of a vehicle that had collided with a parked car on St. Isabel Avenue near Cedar Boulevard.

The emergency responders found an unresponsive passenger — a 22-year-old Fremont man — and transported him to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. His identity has not yet been released.

The three other occupants had minor injuries.

Police arrested the driver — Salvador Silva-Ramierz, of Newark — on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

Police said this is the first fatal traffic collision in Newark in 2022, and it remains under investigation.
