WALNUT CREEK, CA — The Walnut City Council is expected to see a presentation next week from the team working on the project to replace the aquatic and community center at Heather Farm Park.

The city invites residents to attend the meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at City Hall. During the meeting, the project team will also seek Council direction on options for schematic aquatics design, sustainability and essential services features for the new facilities.

The existing facilities have served the community well for over half a century, but the aging aquatic and community centers need replacement. The new facilities will include a combined aquatics and community center; outdoor event spaces and terraces; large indoor event space (new Lakeside Room; three multipurpose rooms/classrooms; a 50-meter lap pool; a recreational pool; a bath house; a pool mechanical building; other supporting spaces; and a new restroom adjacent to the All-Abilities Playground

The project is expected to cost $76.5 million and is funded primarily by the Walnut Creek voter-approved Measure O, a 10-year, half-cent sales tax measure. If the project stays on schedule, the new aquatic and community center will be completed by summer 2027.

Currently, the project is in the design phase. The agenda and related documents for the meeting will be posted Friday on the city's website.
