No Evidence Of Shooter Found At Las Lomas High School: Police

Walnut Creek police searched the high school campus Friday after receiving an unconfirmed report of someone with a gun on campus.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — UPDATED: Walnut Creek police gave the all-clear signal at Las Lomas High School Friday following a phone call to the school indicating someone had a gun on campus.

Las Lomas officials immediately had students and teachers shelter in their classrooms, police said in a news release.

Parents and the Police Department were notified, and a thorough search of the campus was conducted by Walnut Creek Police Department, with additional assistance from the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department.

"Through a classroom-to-classroom search and utilizing a drone, the officers were able to confidently conclude that there was no legitimate threat," Walnut Creek police Lt. Drew Olson said.

Police consulted with school administration and the decision was made to release students for the day. Students were released at about 1:05 p.m. Friday to their parents, and school will resume Monday.

"WCPD would like to thank the hard work and dedication of the staff at Las Lomas High School for their response to this incident," Olson said.

WCPD detectives will continue to investigate the origin of the threat. Olson said anyone with information as to who made the threat should call the police department.

"Despite this incident resolving peacefully, Walnut Creek Police are urging students to take any threat seriously, and if they hear anything that sounds suspicious, please report it immediately to a teacher or school administrator," Olson said.


ORIGINAL POST: The Walnut Creek Police Department was working Friday with staff at Las Lomas High School to release students for the day after receiving unconfirmed reports there was an active shooter at the campus.

In a Nixle alert at 12:52 p.m. Friday, police said there was no evidence of a shooting but officers were still on the scene searching the campus.

In a follow-up Nixle alert at 1:22 p.m., Walnut Creek police said they found no evidence of any crime at the school but were working to release students.

In a final message at 2:42 p.m., police said Las Lomas High School was clear and they'd continue to investigate the origin of the threat.

Las Lomas High School is located at 1460 S. Main St. in Walnut Creek. There were unconfirmed reports that nearby Kaiser Permanente, in the 1420 block of South Main Street, was also on lockdown Friday afternoon.
