Walnut Creek Man Accused Of Cashing Fraudulent $2K Check: Police

A bank manager in Brentwood called police when it was determined the check was fraudulent, Brentwood police say.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A Walnut Creek man was arrested Monday in Brentwood in connection with a fraudulent $2,000 check, police said.

Around 3:30 p.m. Monday, a Brentwood police officer was dispatched to a local bank on a fraud report. The bank manager called the police when a $2,000 check cashed a week earlier was later determined to be fraudulent.

The manager provided a photo of the check-cashing suspect and identified him as 34-year-old Adam Alexander Lew of Walnut Creek.

The investigating officer promptly notified his team of the report.

Within a few hours, dispatchers received a call requesting a welfare check on a man sitting in his car in the 4500 block of Balfour Road.

Officers responded and immediately recognized the person in the car. It was Lew.

He was placed under arrest and officers proceeded to perform a search during which it is alleged they found more fraudulent checks, an M80 firework, shaved keys and several debit and credit cards that did not belong to him.

Lew was taken to the county jail in Martinez jail where he was booked on suspicion of passing a fraudulent check, possession of stolen debit and credit cards, possession of a destructive device, identity theft and other related charges.

Records showed Lew remained in custody Wednesday with his bail set at $60,000.
