Cal Fire Rescues Swimmer, Lifeguard From Rip Currents
The lifeguard got stuck in high surf while trying to rescue the swimmer in distress around 30 feet offshore, Cal Fire officials said.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — Cal Fire crews rescued two people, one a lifeguard, who got caught in a rip current in the Pacific Ocean at Monastery Beach in unincorporated Monterey County on Sunday. Fire officials said the call came in around 3:35 p.m. at the beach located just south of Carmel-By-The-Sea.
The lifeguard got stuck in high surf while trying to rescue the swimmer in distress around 30 feet offshore, Cal Fire officials said. A Cal Fire rescue swimmer was able to get both people out of the water by 3:48 p.m., according to fire officials. Emergency crews medically cleared both people at the scene.
