Officials ID Man Fatally Struck On Highway 1

The roadway was wet and the sky was dark and cloudy at the time of the crash, CHP officials said.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A pedestrian who was hit and killed on state Highway 1 early Saturday morning in Santa Cruz has been identified as 44-year-old Robert Castillo of Watsonville, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.

Castillo was in the third lane of the highway just north of Emeline Avenue at 4:38 a.m. when he was hit by a 2018 Toyota Corolla and a 2016 Ford F-250, according to the CHP. The roadway was wet and the sky was dark and cloudy at the time of the crash, CHP officials said.

The crash is still under investigation and no further information is available.
