Watsonville Film Festival Runs March 11-20; All Films Free Online

WATSONVILLE, CA — The Watsonville Film Festival will screen the independent film "Real Women Have Curves" for its 10th anniversary event March 11-20.

The Los Angeles-based screenwriter Josefina Lopez will be the guest of honor for a conversation following the screening.

"Real Women Have Curves" is a coming-of-age story about Ana Garcia, a Mexican-American teen in an East Los Angeles barrio. Garcia, a successful student at Beverly Hills High School, dreams of going to college but is challenged with balancing her mother’s traditional views of women with her own, while battling with self-image issues and exploring new life experiences.

The film is a true story based on Lopez’s life and stars America Ferrera. It is a 2002 Sundance award-winning film and was inducted into the National Film registry. The Motion Picture Academy will introduce it in their upcoming exhibition.

The screening is March 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Henry J. Mello Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are free and available for purchase here. and doors open at 5:30 p.m. The film is rated PG-13 and is an hour and a half long.
