Adams Co. Deputy IDed As Driver Shot By Police

A man shot by officers in Weld County was identified as an Adams County deputy, sources say.

WELD COUNTY, CO – A driver who was shot by police after a high-speed chase through Weld County Wednesday night was identified as an Adams County deputy, Denver7 first reported.

Two drivers, possibly drag racing, were chased on northbound Hwy 85 speeding around 90 mph,Sgt. J.P. Tymkowych, spokesman for the Greeley Police Department told the Denver Post.

“They blew through the intersection in Platteville,” Tymkowych told the paper. “We’re trying to determine if they were chasing or racing.”

Denver7 confirmed with Adams County Sheriff's Office that the person shot by a law enforcement officer was a deputy with Adams County. The spokesman declined to identify the deputy or give an update on his condition.

The shooting happened near 42nd Avenue and Hwy 85, sometime after 10:30 p.m., according to Greeley police. The injured deputy was taken to North Colorado Medical Center with gun shot wounds.

The Weld County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the case as an officer-involved shooting.
