Off-Duty Deputy Shot In Weld County Has Died

Jesse Jenson, shot Wednesday by LaSalle police after a high-speed chase while off-duty has died, the Adams County Sheriff's Office said.

GREELEY, CO – The Adams County sheriff's deputy shot Wednesday by a LaSalle police officer after a high-speed chase through Weld County has died, police said.

“Deputy Jenson was removed from life support this afternoon and he has passed away,” an Adams County Sheriff’s Office news release said. “He was surrounded by friends and family.” Jenson, a jail deputy had been with the sheriff's office since 2016, the office said.

Jesse Jenson was off duty Wednesday night when he and another vehicle that appeared to be racing were clocked traveling over 90 mph in rural Weld County.

“He was not in the performance of his official duty. He was not in a marked patrol car. There was no legitimate pursuit,” Greeley police spokesman Sgt. Joe Tymkowych told The Denver Post Friday.

Multiple 911 calls were received, starting around 10:25 p.m. as Jenson and the other driver sped on Hwy. 85, through Platteville and other rural towns. Officers from multiple jurisdictions followed the two cars until they were able to curb Jenson's car near 42nd Street and Hwy 85, near Evans.

A LaSalle Police officer reportedly shot Jenson. The injured off-duty deputy was taken to North Colorado Medical Center with gun shot wounds.
