Wheat Ridge 'Hate Music' Purveyor Appears On 'Hate Map'

WHEAT RIDGE, CO — A record label and long-time white-supremacy merchandise business said to be operating out of Wheat Ridge appears on a new interactive map showing hate groups operating throughout Colorado and the rest of the United States. The Southern Poverty Law Centerreleased its new map this week. The updated version allows users to see more details, including which states have the most hate groups per capita and how the number of hate groups has changed over time at the state and national level.

Since the 1980s, MSR Productions, (MSR stands for Mountain States Republic, a 1980s concept of an "Aryan Homeland" in the Pacific Northwest) a company registered in 2010 to now 73-year-old David Daboll, has distributed and released various "white power" recordings as well as selling Swastika and Confederate flags, stickers, t-shirts and other "racialist" merchandise from a home-based business.

Daboll no longer lives in the Wheat Ridge home, in the 6000 block of West 49th Place, having moved to the small town of Hershey, Nebraska. When reached by phone, he declined to speak to Patch. However, the business continues to be run from a PO Box in Wheat Ridge.

In a 2016 interview in a Swedish Neo-Nazi online magazine, Daboll, whose stage name is David Custer, says for himself and his band Lightning Rod: "My directive in life is to help white people. I have been influenced by German nationalism and its leaders, along with Skrewdriver, David Duke, William Pierce, Rudyard Kipling and many others." In the interview he is pictured wearing a t-shirt that reads "Slavery: Gets S*** Done."

MSR, along with 14 other record labels and/or bands, fall under the "hate music" category. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, various forms of "white power" music have evolved from a cottage industry serving a few skinheads to a "multimillion-dollar, worldwide industry used as a conduit for money and young recruits to the radical right."

Song titles from Daboll's musical releases include "More Evil Than A Hollywood Jew," "We Don't Want Dagos in Our Scene," "The Jews and The Catholics Want Your Guns," and "Aryan Homeland."

Wheat Ridge police could not immediately determine if hate crimes or other instances of criminal complaints have been filed against Daboll or his son, who now lives at the property. Daboll had a 1971 Fort Collins arrest for dealing drugs that was dismissed, the CBI's state criminal records database shows. No criminal history is associated with Daboll in his new home in Nebraska, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said.

The Southern Poverty Law Center identified 1,020 active hate groups operating in the United States last year, a record high and a 30-percent increase over the last four years. Moreover, an estimated 40 people were killed in North America in radical right terrorist attacks last year and there were more than 1,200 incidents of hate groups passing out flyers.

Heidi Beirich, director of the Intelligence Project, which publishes the award-winning Intelligence Report and the Hatewatch blog, said in a release it's become "critically important" that people understand what she called "the landscape of hate." The number of these groups is surging in the era of President Donald Trump, who has faced fierce criticism for his anti-immigrant rhetoric.

"We hope the new, interactive map helps people recognize and better understand the extremist activity occurring in their communities and how it's part of a larger movement," said Beirich.
