9 Of '50 Best Places To Work' Nationwide Are In One Town: Boulder

Does your employer donate $1,000 to charity every time you climb a fourteener?

BOULDER, CO – If the blue skies and nearby trails weren't enough to draw people to the Front Range, it looks like Boulder might be a pretty darn good place to work, too. Outside Magazine's annual nationwide list of the Top 50 Places to Work (a ranking ostensibly based on fun, supportive work environments with a possible bias for beer, kombucha, and access to outdoor adventure) featured nine companies from a single town in its 2018 list: Boulder, Colorado.

The list included everything from BSW Wealth Partners, a financial advisory firm that was Boulder's top ranked workplace at No. 6, to Avid4Adventure, which offers day and overnight camps, expeditions and school programs.

BSW earned high marks for ski and whitewater rafting expeditions, as well as the three-month sabbaticals offered to employees who stick around for 10 years. Stipends for gym or yoga memberships were a common thread among companies selected for the list, as was easy access to craft beer.

TDA Boulder, a full-service advertising agency that ranked 16th, donates $1,000 to a charity of an employee's choice if they summit a fourteener. Several companies offered annual "powder day" time-off clauses, and employees at SmartEtailing, which creates websites, marketing, and integrations for independent bike shops, can earn money each day they arrive at work via alternative transportation that can be used to purchase gear and bikes.

Other Boulder companies listed include travel agency Asia Transpacific Journeys; brand consulting firm The Sterling-Rice Group; Bonusly, which walks the talk as it creates recognition and rewards software for enriching company culture; CampMinder, which creates web-based platforms and solutions for summer camp operators while offering employees a dedicated meditation room; and Mondo Robot, a creative digital agency.

Fifteen other Colorado companies also made the list, awarding the Centennial State a grand total of 25 of 50 available slots – best of luck with that housing market.
