Some Boulder foothills open spaces closed until August to protect golden eagles (dailycamera.com) — Several popular Boulder foothills open spaces, including Lefthand Palisades, Flagstaff Mountain, and Skunk Canyon, are closed through July 31 to protect nesting golden eagles. City officials say the Boulder Flatirons are a key raptor nesting area and will monitor activity, with the option to lift closures early if the birds don’t nest successfully.

2. Boulder's Dairy Arts Center again owns its building (dailycamera.com) — Boulder’s Dairy Arts Center has officially bought back its Walnut Street building from the City of Boulder, ending a 25-year city-ownership arrangement and restoring full control to the nonprofit. The $11.7 million deal relieves the city of major maintenance costs while giving the Dairy long-term stability to plan capital upgrades, continue hosting hundreds of arts events, and support more than 100 local organizations each year.

3. Boulder honors veterans at Columbia Cemetery for Wreaths Across America (boulderreportinglab.org) — Boulder residents and city officials gathered at Columbia Cemetery on Dec. 13 to honor nearly 300 local veterans as part of the national Wreaths Across America event. Volunteers laid wreaths, shared stories of veterans from multiple wars, and also marked the occasion at Mountain View Cemetery, with organizers hoping to make these Boulder ceremonies an annual tradition.

4. NASA selects a CU Boulder lab to build instruments for the moon (denver7.com) — CU Boulder’s Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics just landed a $24.8 million NASA award to build DUSTER, a suite of instruments that will study hazardous lunar dust on the Artemis IV mission. About 20–30 Boulder-based scientists and engineers will work on technology aimed at making long-term human exploration of the Moon safer.
