All Adults Eligible For Booster Shot In Colorado: What To Know

Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order that allows everyone ages 18 and older to get a booster shot.

DENVER, CO — Every Coloradan ages 18 and older now qualifies for a COVID-19 booster shot. Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order Thursday that declares our state as high-risk for transmission and expands booster eligibility.

Adults who are six months past their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two months past their Johnson & Johnson vaccine, are urged to get their third vaccine dose.

The order was signed as cases surge in Colorado. Around 95 percent of ICU beds in our state are now full, and hospital bed capacity has hit an all-time low, public health officials said.

Around 80 percent of COVID-19 hospitalizations are among the unvaccinated, officials said. Hospitals are also dealing with staffing shortages, and an influx of patients with other diseases and emergencies as Coloradans return to their normal lives.

"The data is completely clear and consistent: a third vaccine dose is necessary for stronger and lasting protection against COVID-19," Polis said after he received his booster shot in late October.
