Hundreds of customers in Boulder County's mountains lose power amid high winds (boulderreportinglab.org) — High winds left more than 1,500 Xcel customers in Boulder County’s mountain communities without power Thursday, with major outages in Nederland, Jamestown, Salina and Gold Hill. While electricity was mostly restored by evening, residents and fire officials remain worried about losing heat, water and 911 access, especially where landlines fail and cell service is spotty during future wind and wildfire events. 
2. Boulder County residents lay wreaths to thank veterans for their service (dailycamera.com) — Boulder residents joined city officials Saturday to lay wreaths on veterans’ graves at Columbia Cemetery, reviving a ceremony that hadn’t been held in about a decade. With hundreds of wreaths placed in Boulder and at Mountain View Memorial Park, speakers urged neighbors to pause during the holidays to honor local service members’ sacrifices and support expanding the effort next year.
3. Climber Rescued After Overnight Ordeal in Eldorado Canyon (longmontleader.com) — Boulder County rescuers and Boulder Police worked together to locate a stranded climber on Eldorado Canyon’s Naked Edge route after his headlamp and phone batteries died during a late outing. The six-hour overnight operation used a police drone and Rocky Mountain Rescue to bring him down safely, and officials are urging locals to better plan and share details of backcountry trips.
4. Five issues in front of the justices (scotusblog.com) — Boulder and Boulder County’s climate lawsuit against Suncor and Exxon is now part of a closely watched batch of cases the U.S. Supreme Court may decide to hear, testing how far local governments can go in challenging fossil fuel companies. The same conference also weighs major questions on guns, religious vaccine exemptions, press freedom, and excessive fines that could indirectly affect Coloradans’ rights.
5. Cortez graduate Cruz Hernandez nominated for New Mexico Scenic Design award (the-journal.com) — A first-year University of Colorado Boulder theater student is earning statewide recognition for his scenic design work with a New Mexico company, including a nominated set for “The Little Mermaid.” While studying in Boulder, he still builds intricate scale models in his dorm room, then hauls them back to Cortez to support ongoing productions and public voting for the award.
