Boulder County Public Health Receives State Award for Budget Innovation (longmontleader.com) — Boulder County Public Health just earned a statewide award for how it reshaped its 2026 budget, even while cutting overall spending by 21%. Core services like inspections, environmental health, disease response and vital records will continue for Boulder County residents, with officials emphasizing equity and community impact as they navigate reduced federal, state and local funding. 
2. DC-24-0004 Staff Report to Board of County Commissioners (bouldercounty.gov) — Boulder County is taking public comment on proposed Land Use Code changes that would eliminate separate boarding house and group care or foster home uses and treat residential group homes as standard households. County commissioners will hold a public hearing on Docket DC-24-0004 at the Boulder County Courthouse and via Zoom on Thursday, Dec. 18, with written comments due Dec. 17.

4. Guard Desiree Wooten providing spark off bench for Buffaloes (dailycamera.com) — CU women’s basketball guard Desiree Wooten has embraced a new sixth-player role, giving the Buffaloes a scoring and energy boost off the bench. As the Buffs work to improve their shooting, they’ll be back in action when Miami of Ohio visits Boulder on Sunday, offering fans a look at Wooten’s impact in person.
5. Record-breaking winds tied to Colorado (9news.com) — Boulder’s own NCAR helped verify a new world-record 252 mph hurricane gust using a dropsonde sensor originally designed there in 1974. The story also ties in Colorado-built tech and researchers behind other record wind measurements, from hurricanes to Monarch Pass blizzards, highlighting the state’s outsized role in extreme weather science.
