The Book Cellar To Close After 16 Years In Downtown Louisville
The shop's owner broke the news to loyal customers in an email.
LOUISVILLE, CO -- Downtown Louisville's beloved literary institution, the Book Cellar, will shut its doors for good this April. According to a report from the Daily Camera, owner Barbara Butterworth told loyal customers in an email that the closure comes as she plans to retire and step back to spend time with family. Butterworth also indicated that the building the store operates out of recently was purchased and she's also opted to sell ahead of any repurposing.
According to the Camera, Butterworth retired from her first career and opened the store in 2003. Her first location was in a just down the street from its current site. She has operated out of the 724 Main St. location for roughly eight years.
"What really helped us was that the community here really wanted a book store," Butterworth told the Camera said, "so they supported us — our customers are the reason we're still here — they supported us through thick and thin, through a period where I wasn't sure if we would make it."
