Botched Blood Samples Lead Police To Close Drugging Investigation
Samples taken from suspected victims in multiple druggings on University Hill last fall were unusable due to improper storage.

BOULDER, CO -- Boulder Police have closed an investigation into multiple suspected druggings that took place on The Hill in October due to botched blood samples. New police reports indicate that three of the women were hospitalized after the incident and had blood drawn, the Daily Camera reports. Police obtained a warrant for the samples, but the lab they were sent to explained that they had been stored in "non-standard tubes" and had coagulated.
"Blood was drawn from these patients for the purposes of diagnosis and treatment," Boulder Community Health spokesman Rich Sheehan told the Camera in a statement. "We followed our standard protocols. Our records indicate we were not aware of any police involvement at the time the samples were taken. We did not become aware of a police investigation until six days later when the police served a warrant for the blood samples."
The possible druggings took place on the night of Oct. 17, 2018. Ultimately, six women came forward to report that they believed they had ingested drugs without their knowledge in alcoholic beverages at several parties on The Hill.
