Boulder County Offers Black Walnut Wood To Local Woodworkers

The lumber comes from the Rawley Homestead Open Space property

BOULDER, CO -- Boulder County is offering woodworkers of all skill levels the opportunity to use recently harvested, local black walnut wood in their art. The wood comes from a tree on the Rawley Homestead Open Space property, which died as a result of Thousand Cankers Disease and had to be removed for safety reasons.

Boulder County Parks & Open Space plans to host a woodworking exhibit in October 2020 at The Great Frame Up Longmont, and is offering artists an opportunity to work with the unique material and have their woodworking creations considered for display.

Those interested must submit a request for wood by Feb. 27, and can visit www.BoulderCountyOpenSpace.org/woodworking to schedule a wood collection appointment on either Thursday, March 14 from 8 a.m.–noon or Tuesday, April 2 from 1–5 p.m.
