Boulder High School Wins State Title In Annual Vocabulary Bowl

BOULDER, CO — Boulder High School edged out all its local competition to come out on top in the state for Vocabulary.com's eighth-annual Vocabulary Bowl.

Boulder High School, over the past seven months, was one of 33,000 schools across the United States and Canada competing digitally to see who could answer the most questions on Vocabulary.com, a news release said. After coming in second place in Colorado last year, Boulder High School took the state-wide victory this season, mastering more than 44,600 words.

Overall, Boulder High School ranked at no. 131 out of the 33,000 competing schools. Out of all the high schools that partook in this competition, Boulder High School came in at no. 80. And out of all Colorado schools, Boulder High School came out on top by a margin of about 2,000 words.

Broomfield High school took second place within Colorado with 42,253 words mastered, and Fairview High School took third place, with 39,482 words mastered.

Etiwanda High School in California won the overall competition for the sixth year in a row by a handy margin of more than 120,000 words, mastering more than 359,000 words during the season.

In total, the more than 1 million students at the more than 33,000 competing schools answered 623 million questions and collectively mastered more than 32 million words, the news release said. This most recent season of the Vocabulary Bowl ran from October to the end of April; the 2022-23 season will begin on October 1.
