Here are the top three stories today in Boulder:
- Early bird tax filers were "encouraged" to hold off on filing by the IRS until the agency released guidance in regard to whether or not Bill of Rights refunds were subject to federal income tax. The decision has been made by the IRS that Colorado's TABOR refunds totaling $750 for single filers and $1,500 for joint filers don’t need to be claimed. According to Sky-Hi News, “the IRS has determined that in the interest of sound tax administration and other factors, taxpayers in many states will not need to report these payments on their 2022 tax returns,” the IRS said in a statement. “The week-long uncertainty about whether the IRS was going to tax state refunds was a disaster,” U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado said in a news release. “And as the IRS looks to the 2023 tax year, I will continue to fight to keep TABOR tax-free."' (Sky-Hi News)
- Residents of Boulder County are invited to the Commissioners’ Town Hall meeting Thursday, Feb. 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Hygiene Fire Protection District (7523 Hygiene Rd, Longmont) to discuss climate work in the county and other local issues. Hope to see you there! (Boulder County via Twitter)
- Did you know that The Boulder Municipal Airport turns 95 years old this year? The City of Boulder is currently looking for input from area residents in regard to the airport's future. You are invited to an open house on Wednesday, March 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the airport, located at 1777 Broadway, to discuss your thoughts. The Boulder Municipal Airport is a general aviation airport that offers business, private and recreational aviation services to the city and surrounding communities. In preparation for a future Airport Master Plan, the city is working to develop a deeper understanding of the community’s desired future for the airport, while being mindful of long-term commitments to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
