Boulder Ranked No. 1 In America On 'Brain Concentration' Index

Boulder tops the annual list of cities published by Bloomberg.

BOULDER, CO -- If you feel like you are increasingly surrounded by fellow Boulderites with advanced degrees, jobs in fields like science, technology, or engineering, or who are starting new businesses, according to research released by Bloomberg on Nov. 1, it's not all in your head. Boulder topped the list of all U.S. cities with populations greater than 90,000 on the company's "Brain Concentration Index."

The index tracks business formation as well as the percentage of the population employed or with higher education in the sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics. The current report is based on 2017 data and uses a 3-year average for business activities.

Boulder beat out 411 other cities for the honor, with northern neighbor Fort Collins ranked second. Denver was just a bit further down the list as well, slotting in at 10th nationwide.
