Boulder Reps Take Over State Legislature Leadership

Three Boulder County district representatives will be in leadership positions for the new session of Congress.

BOULDER, CO -- Democrats will take over both branches of the state Congress in January, and leaders from Boulder will be front and center when it happens.

The Colorado House Democratic Caucus designated Rep. KC Becker as the next speaker of the house. Becker represents House District 13, which includes Gilpin, Clear Creek, Jackson and Grand counties, as well as western portions of Boulder County. She is a former Boulder city councilwoman, and has represented the district since 2013, most recently serving as the house majority leader.

Edie Hooton of House District 10, which includes portions of Boulder and Gunbarrel, will be the new majority caucus chair.

In the Senate, second-term senator Steve Fenberg was elected majority senate leader by the Senate Democratic caucus. Fenberg's district includes the City of Boulder and the county's western mountain towns.

The new legislative session will open Jan. 4, 2019.
