Boulder Voter Turnout Surges To Presidential Levels

Highest turnout county precincts were in Louisville, lowest were near CU.

BOULDER, CO -- Nearly 180,000 Boulder County voters cast ballots in this year's midterm elections, according to the County Clerk and Recorder. That number eclipses the turnout of 144,405 in the 2014 midterms, and comes close to the 192,822 of the 2016 presidential election.

The 24.2 percent total increase over the 2014 midterm was fueled by Democrats and unaffiliated voters. Boulder County Republicans were actually down in numbers with 7.5 fewer voters showing up to the polls this year. Democrats were up 28.9 percent and unaffiliated voters had the largest surge, with a 36.7 percent increase, according to data from local pollsters Magellan Strategies.

Statewide, young voters saw a huge surge in participation–but turnout in precincts around the CU-Boulder were some of the lowest in the county. The highest turnout precincts clustered around Louisville. Precinct 206 was the highest at last count, with 87.43 percent of active voters weighing in.
