Gas prices are at a seven-year high this summer. Here's a look at the most expensive Colorado counties.
ACROSS COLORADO — If you’re among the millions of Americans traveling this summer, you may be in for some sticker shock at the gas pump.
Gas prices reached a seven-year high this summer, according to a recent AAA report. As of Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of gas in the United States was $3.16. Last year, gas prices hovered around $2.18 per gallon in July.
Looking to save money in Colorado? If you're heading into the mountains, make sure to fill up beforehand. And if you're on a road trip in the plains, fill up before you hit the metro areas.

- Pitkin: $4.69.
- Hinsdale: $4.03.
- San Miguel: $4.05.
- Summit: $3.87.
- Ouray: $3.83.
Lowest gas prices.
- Prowers: $2.92.
- Kiowa: $2.97.
- Cheyenne: $2.98.
- Sedgwick: $3.18.
- Logan: $3.20.
Average prices in metro Denver, Boulder County:
- Adams: $3.49.
- Douglas: $3.50.
- Arapahoe: $3.50.
- Boulder: $3.50.
- Jefferson: $3.53.
- Denver: $3.54.

If you take a trip to the western United States, you’ll likely be paying some of the highest gas prices in the nation. Gas prices have reached as high as $4.24 in California, $3.67 in Nevada and $3.64 in Washington state.
Meanwhile, Southern states including Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Missouri enjoy the nation’s lowest gas prices, ranging from $2.72 to $2.87 per gallon.
