- A former Boulderite penned a book highlighting various places around Boulder. In his book, "The Mean Reds," author Dale Bridges makes mention of the Pearl Street Mall, University Hill, CU, the Boulder Theater, Hotel Boulderado, the Boulder International Film Festival, Nitro Club and more. Bridges, who now reportedly lives in Austin, is the former arts and entertainment editor at Boulder Weekly. According to Colorado Hometown Weekly, "Bridges’ style has been likened to Augusten Burroughs, Chuck Palahniuk and Kurt Vonnegut. He describes 'The Mean Reds' as “a demented love letter to the Golden Age of Hollywood; the title lifted from Truman Capote’s prose in 'Breakfast at Tiffany’s.'” (Colorado Hometown Weekly)
- In an effort to forge a deeper relationship between the school and the community, the Boulder Valley School District will begin The Community Leadership Academy this spring. The hope is this program will help to expand parents' understanding of the school district, as well as engage them in more opportunities to get involved, including volunteering to join committees and/or running for the school board. According to Colorado Hometown Weekly, "Boulder Valley Superintendent Rob Anderson said, '“Our board, our district is always looking at ways we can engage with our community. This was a great opportunity to come together with the Parent Engagement Network and create sessions where we really dig into the ways the district operates."' The plan is to hold four sessions of the Community Leadership Academy on March 10, April 7, April 28 and May 19. To apply for the program go to bvsd.org/community-leadership-academy. (Colorado Hometown Weekly.com).
- If you were the property owner at the time of the Marshall Fire and Straight Line Winds, the Housing Recovery program can help. The program is for community members recovering from disasters. If you have an existing funding gap for rebuilding, you may be eligible for this program. The Colorado Department of Local Affairs and Marshall ROC are partnering to host a session on Thursday, February 23, virtually from 6 to 7:30 to give an overview of the program, clarify eligibility, explain how to apply and address frequently asked questions.
