Do You Have A Plan For Your Thanksgiving Turkey Grease?

Local businesses are ready to help.

BOULDER, CO -- You don't want to pour it down the sink – but you don't have to put it in your trash. As we enter a holiday season full of big meals and events, several local businesses are ready to help Boulderites celebrate a bit more sustainably. If you're looking to dispose of cooking oil and grease in an environmentally friendly way, there are several Boulder County options ready for you.

Eco-Cycle's Center for Hard to Recycle materials, located at 6400 Arapahoe Rd. will accept cooking oils and fats in quantities up to 10 gallons, with bones and large pieces of food removed. You will pour your grease into a large 55-gallon drum at CHaRM and take your container home. Consider taking a sweep of tricky recyclables in your house and make a big trip of it: vehicles that come to CHaRM are charged a $3 facility use fee per visit.

The Longmont Waste Diversion Center is able to handle both automotive and cooking oil at its drop-off window. Oil must be in see-through, one-gallon plastic containers such as gallon milk jugs, must be securely capped, and cannot be mixed with other fluids. You must present a recent utility bill indicating you are a current subscriber to City of Longmont's trash collection service.
