Double Rescue In Eldorado Canyon

Local emergency organizations worked together to get everyone home safely.

BOULDER, CO -- Local emergency organizations were busy Saturday in Eldorado Canyon State park. Dispatchers fielded two emergency rescue calls within five hours of one another in the area according to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff's office.

The first call came at roughly 4:30 p.m., reporting that a man from San Diego had fallen from the fifth pitch of the Yellow Spur climb. The man's climbing partner had been belaying his friend at the time and was able to arrest his fall. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was lowered to the ground and was able to walk out with rescue personnel.

Then, at about 9 p.m, as the first rescue neared completion dispatchers received another call from three hikers from Broomfield who had gotten lost after climbing the "Rewritten" route and were stranded near some cliffs on Shirt Tail Peak. Rescuers were able to find the trio and hike back with them to the trailhead.

Personnel from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Rocky Mountain Fire Authority and Eldorado Canyon State Park, Alpine Rescue Team and BCSO Emergency Services were involved in the rescues.
