Downtown Boulder Halloween Caters To All Ages
The afternoon's Munchkin Masquerade turns into the Mall Crawl at night.

BOULDER, CO -- When you live in a town like Boulder, no one wants to save their costume for just an indoor display. Kids will rule the streets in the afternoon as local merchants set up trick-or-treating candy stops along the mall for the annual Munchkin Masquerade. Once darkness falls, the adults of Boulder come out to show off their costumes in the infamous Mall Crawl.
The Mall Crawl got so big and rowdy in the 80s that the city shut it down for almost two decades from 1991 to 2009. Though an "official" Mall Crawl is often designated for the Saturday evening closest to Halloween, every Oct. 31, Pearl Street will fill with adults ready to celebrate–and show off–on the spookiest day of the year.

A full list of stores participating in the Munchkin Masquerade–and it is virtually all of them–can be found on the Downtown Boulder website. Stops will be open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and some will even offer adults their own treats in the form of coupons or sales. One Boulder Fitness is offering a chance to win a 6 month membership, while Illegal Pete's is ready to fill bellies with slightly less-sugary fare and is offering a free kid's entree with the purchase of an adult meal.
