Oil and gas pollution taxes in Boulder and Lafayette hold strong leads in early tallies.
As the Colorado governor's race is called for Democrat Jared Polis, Lafayette Mayor Pro-Tem Jamie Harkins was ready to celebrate. In response to a tweet that noted Polis was the first openly gay man elected governor in U.S. history, Harkins wrote, "HISTORY MADE." Harkins herself is in a same-sex relationship.

Local Contests
Longmont - Of 33,490 votes cast, all three of Longmont's bond approval measures are still leading. Measure 3C, which seeks to issue revenue bonds for recreational services, remains the closest race but the gap has widened, with 18,521 now currently approving the measure to 14,969 opposed.
Boulder - The City of Boulder's proposed oil and gas pollution tax, measure 2c, continues its solid lead with more than 70 percent of voters approving the measure. Ballot issue 2D, which seeks to allow the city to retain revenues from its sugar sweetened beverage tax above the TABOR cap has strong early support as well, with 26,140 voters of the 40,271 weighing in currently in favor.
Lafayette - Early Lafayette voters are also approving the city's proposed oil and gas pollution tax, with 9,039 of 12,695 voters coming out in favor of the measure.
Superior- The mayoral seat appears to be solidly in Clint Folsom's hands. With almost 4,822 votes counted, he has over 70 percent of the vote total. In the trustees' race, Ken Lish and Laura Skladzinski are off to a solid lead, but the third seat is currently still in play. The latest totals have seen Neal S. Shah pull into a strong position. Countywide Contests
With 136,431 ballots of a projected 183,100 counted at 1:25 a.m. on Nov. 7, in the commissioner race, Matt Jones holds an unsurpassable lead with 68.96 percent picking the Democrat. Republican challenger Gary Cooper has 24.20 percent of the early vote total, and the Green Party's Cliff Willmeng currently has 6.84 percent.
Boulder County measure 1A, which seeks to provide funding for an alternative sentencing facility and jail modernization is ahead with over 75 percent of the vote – 99,110 yes votes to 32,773 no's out of 131,883 ballots cast.
According to FiveThirtyEight's final forecast, Colorado's 2nd Congressional District, which includes parts of Boulder County, is expected to have one of the highest voter turnout rates in the nation. As of 4 p.m. this afternoon, it was ranked 10th according to estimates, with a projected turnout rate of more than 60 percent. This is the district currently represented by Jared Polis. Candidates vying to take his seat tonight include Republican Peter Yu and Democrat Joe Neguse.

Colorado voters will have a chance to weigh in on 13 ballot measures and a full slate of candidates for elected office on Tuesday, Nov. 6. In Boulder County, many municipalities have additional local measures ready to face voters opinions. Here at Patch, we are watching the news and the polls and are ready to bring you the latest on the 2018 midterm election.
Polling data on local initiatives is scarce, but the most recent analysis of Colorado's governor's race showed Democrat Jared Polis with a 5 point lead over Republican Walker Stapleton. Some thought this might be behind a recent Stapleton endorsement from the White House.
As of Nov.5, 1,514,817 Coloradans had cast their ballots, according to the Secretary of State's office. Democratic ballots returned are now outpacing those from Republicans, 519,833 to 515,131. With less than 48 hours remaining before the polls close, 461,154 unaffiliated voters have turned in their picks.

In Boulder County, 108,022 voters have cast their votes. In 2014, the last midterm year, there were 144,405 total county ballots counted.
Do you still need to turn your ballot in? Boulder County has an interactive map to help you find the most convenient drop box or voter service center. Residents can still register to vote right up until election day in Colorado. The Boulder County Clerk and Recorder put out a social media plea to local voters today asking for as many ballots to be returned by 5 p.m. today in order to streamline the results process.
