Erie Exodus: Trustees Question Rapid Staff Resignation Rate

Trustees calling for an investigation into high profile town staff departures.

ERIE, CO -- After yet another town staff resignation, Erie Trustee Dan Woog took to the Nextdoor neighborhood group online to voice his concerns. "One of our most exemplary Town staff members abruptly resigned yesterday," Woog wrote, according to Daily Camera reporting. "Erie has lost 4 top staff members since April. This makes us wonder, who's next to leave? And WHY?!?"

Resident Ray Schlott approached his town's leaders at their meeting last Tuesday, noting that the rate of departures should be a "cause of alarm and concern." Schlott mused about whether the departures might be related to the recent actions of the new Board of Trustees on oil and gas measures. The trustees responded, with Trustee Scott Charles calling for an investigation, an exit interview protocol, or even the hiring of a consultant to find out why the resignations were taking place, according to the Camera.

Even before the most recent crop of exits, former town clerk Nancy Parker had resigned earlier this year after an investigation into her work that yielded no charges before Town Administrator A.J. Krieger was ousted by the new Board of Trustees.

Next steps are currently unclear.
