Let’s start from the beginning. Matchett, a 37-year-old Arvada resident, is the son of two architects and was always exposed to the worlds of construction and custom homebuilding. Later as a business professional, he thrived in operations, first with the second-largest paint distributor in North America at the time and later with a medical equipment management and services company that became an important cog in providing ventilators and hospital beds to hospitals at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“So how does all that correlate to flooring?” Matchett asked. “Quite frankly, it doesn’t, but I know how to run a business… any business, at a very high level. At the end of the day, it’s about people. If you can relate and respect those around you, you’re way ahead of everyone else. Leave your ego at the door and follow the Golden Rule.”

Matchett’s parents were both entrepreneurs and that penchant was passed on to their son. And what once seemed like a big leap to business ownership when Matchett was younger, became a smaller one as he gained more and more experience in his business career. “I’ve always treated the businesses I worked for as my own and I always told myself that they were a training exercise for bigger things to come,” Matchett said.

And while the home remodeling sector might have some room for improvement as a customer-centric industry, there is no doubt it is booming. And the flooring market is keeping pace. The global flooring market was estimated to reach $409 billion in 2021, according to Grand View Research, with the market expected to grow at an annual rate of more than six percent through 2028, reaching overall sales of $621 billion.
