High Wind Warning For Some Metro Denver, Boulder County Regions

Wind could gust up to 80 mph Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued high wind warning for Boulder, Arvada, Lakewood, Golden and other Front Range cities. The wind warning will be in effect until 5 p.m.

West wind is expected to gust between 25 and 40 mph, but some gusts could reach up to 80 mph, weather officials said. The winds have sparked some smaller grass fires in the Boulder area and Jefferson County.

"Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines," the weather alert reads.

"Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

The strongest winds below 6000 feet are expected near the base of the foothills from north Boulder, to Fort Collins, to the Wyoming border, weather officials said.
