Immigration Through Art: University Of Colorado Series

New public exhibition this weekend looks at human migration from a lens of art and academics.

BOULDER, CO -- University of Colorado scholars are inviting the public to look at Latin American migration through a different lens at two events this weekend. "The Aesthetics of Migration" will combine panels, readings, discussions, and screenings designed to give attendees a new perspective on immigration.

A faculty panel on Friday afternoon at Norlin Library in Boulder will feature scholars in Ethnic Studies, Geography, Theatre & Dance and Sociology. A second event in Denver Saturday at 6 p.m. at Counterpath will feature readings and performances by Denver youth writers and artists.

Friday's event will begin at 3:45 p.m. with the panel discussion, before a break for light refreshments. The evening will continue with presentations from novelist and poet Cristina Rivera Garza, visual artist Julio Morales, video artist Armando Ibañez and computational creativity expert Rafael Pérez y Pérez.

Counterpath, at 7935 E. 14th St. in Denver will host Saturday's event, beginning at 6 p.m. It will kick off with a reading by Sheryl Luna and Eduardo Gabrielloff, followed by a panel discussion with Carlos Jimenz and Edelina Burciaga 6:30 p.m. There will be a catered dinner, and the evening will conclude with the presentations from Garza, Morales, Ibanez and Pérez y Pérez from 8-9:30 p.m.
