Injured Hiker Requires Technical Rescue Near Chautauqua Park
Four local agencies collaborated in the evacuation of a man from the Royal Arch trail.

BOULDER, CO -- A man sustained a possible lower leg fracture on the Royal Arch trail near Chautauqua Park Saturday afternoon, according to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff’s office, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, and American Medical response all responded to the report of an injured hiker at about 4:30 p.m.
The man was unable to walk out on his own, so rescuers completed a technical litter evacuation from his location near the top of the trail to the trailhead — approximately two miles. The rescue took roughly 3 hours.
The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
