Lamented Lafayette Oatmeal Festival Resurrected

After negotiations and public pressure, once-lost sponsor Quaker is set to return.

LAFAYETTE, CO - Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Officials confirmed the rumors on Monday - the city's beloved annual Oatmeal Festival will be returning this January, despite its previous cancellation amid threats of losing long-time sponsor Quaker. The Daily Camera reported that the turnaround came after a renewed series of negotiations between Lafayette and the oatmeal industry giant.

"I believe the community had a lot to do with (the festival's return)," Pat Vero, the chamber's director of events and marketing, told the Camera in a statement. "I believe a lot of people contacted Quaker — they got back to me and said they wanted to negotiate more."

Previously, Vero had been the one to break the news that the festival would not be continuing after Quaker signaled its departure in September due to a tightening budget. "We explored many other options to keep this event without Quaker," Vero said then, "But it just wasn't doable."
