  1. Learning from the wreckage caused by the Marshall Fire, a new study stresses the necessity for stricter guidelines to safeguard water systems from contamination caused by wildfires. The hope is that the lessons learned from the Marshall Fire will aid other communities and help them to avoid the worst. Reportedly, the Marshall Fire damaged six public drinking water systems in Louisville, Lafayette, Superior, East Boulder County Water District, Eldorado Artesian Spring, Inc. and the Sans Souci Mobile Home Park. No one wants a repeat of that disaster.(Yellow Scene)
  2. On Friday morning, just after 10 a.m. the Boulder Police Department got a call in regard to a man waving a gun in the 2700 block of Arapahoe Ave. The man reportedly entered a car and drove off. Shortly after, BPD officers located the car and conducted a high-risk stop. A handgun was found inside the car, so officers took Patrick McCarthy, 52, to jail on a charge of felony menacing. 3. Senate Bill 96 may provide a mechanism to help CU Boulder better fund institutionally funded merit and need-based scholarships for Colorado residents. CU Boulder Chancellor Phil DiStefano explained to the Senate Education Committee, that CU Boulder is in favor of this legislation because it will allow the university to continue to attract and retain outstanding Colorado students. According to the University of Colorado Boulder, "Chancellor DiStefano said, “boosting scholarship support for resident students, both merit- and need-based, is of critical importance to the university, to our students’ futures, and to the economic success of Colorado. This bill would allow us to do that at no additional cost to the state.”' (University of Colorado Boulder)
