Longmont Cyclist Killed In Collision With Train
The intersection at Ken Pratt Boulevard and Nelson Road will be closed through at least 5 p.m. Sunday.

LONGMONT, CO -- A cyclist has died as a result of their injuries after a collision with a train Sunday afternoon in Longmont. According to a report from the Longmont Police, Fire and Office of Emergency Management, the incident occurred at the intersection of Ken Pratt Boulevard and Nelson Road.
Police anticipate the intersection at Ken Pratt Boulevard and Nelson Road will be closed until at least 5 p.m. Sunday for investigation. South Sunset Road is also blocked by the train. Travelers are encouraged to find other routes through the area.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. today, according to reporting from the Times-Call. Police Deputy Chief Jeff Satur told the Times-Call in an email that the train was traveling eastbound, and the engineer was reportedly sounding the horn, the crossing signals were down, and the lights were functioning as the train approached and crossed the intersection. Satur also stated that the cyclist was walking his bike on the north sidewalk and crossed the tracks ahead of the oncoming train.
