Longmont Short-Term Rental Regulations Take Effect
Own an Airbnb or VRBO property? You're going to need a permit for that.

LONGMONT, CO -- Regulations for Longmont residents who operate short-term rentals though services like Airbnb, VRBO, or Craigslist, will now be enforced after city council finalized new regulations in meetings this month. Owners must now obtain a permit through the city in order to continue renting their property, whether they are renting a complete home or just a room, apartment, or accessory dwelling unit.
Short-term rentals in Longmont may not be rented for periods of time longer than 30 days, and depending on a neighborhood's zoning designation, the number of permitted properties in an area may be limited. Rentals are subject of occupancy restrictions, and all rental bedrooms must be up-to-code, among other requirements. Property owners who do not live in Longmont are not allowed to rent properties short-term within the city.
Interested homeowners can visit the city website for details about obtaining a permit. Inspections will be required once a year for permit renewal. Initial permits will cost $100 plus a $25 sales and use tax fee, and carry an annual renewal cost of $100. Those who violate the Longmont Municipal Code by not obtaining a permit will be subject to a fee of $500 per day and a possible court summons.
