Man Found Unconscious Dies: Police Update

An investigation is ongoing and the cause of death is yet to be determined.

BOULDER, CO - A man found unconscious by Boulder deputies after transport to a local detox center on September 9 has died, according to a report from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. Demetrius Shankling, 23, passed away late Saturday evening at a Denver-area hospital.

Police say Shankling was found unconscious in a police van after the September transport and immediately removed from the vehicle. Medics were summoned as two deputies began CPR. Once medics arrived, they were able to regain a pulse on the man. He was then taken to Boulder Community Foothills Hospital, according to the Sheriff's Office.

When he was arrested, Shankling showed visible signs of extreme intoxication and was belligerent with deputies.
