Marie Kondo Craze Is A Boon For Boulder-Area Thrift Stores

Boulderites are Kondo-ing their Condos, and that means donations are up for local non-profits.

BOULDER, CO -- Donations are up at Boulder County non-profits, consignment stores, and thrift shops, and the inspiration could be the Marie Kondo Netflix series that launched on Jan. 1, the Daily Camera reports. Kondo's viral decluttering practicing instruct aspiring adherents to get rid of any belongings that do not "spark joy", a practice originally detailed in her book, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up."

"We definitely have seen a spike in donations, almost instantly, since the first of the month," Jennifer Greany, owner of ARES Thrift Store in Boulder told the Camera, explaining that as many as 20 people each day mention Marie Kondo's name as their inspiration for their visit.

Sarah Strain, a manager at the consignment store, Common Threads, told the Camera that while they are grateful for the uptick in donations, sometimes employees are left wondering, "what's left in your closet?"
