MLK Day Events In Boulder County: Longmont, Boulder, Lafayette

Boulder County has options for families, parades, youth-led activities and more, all to honor the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr.

BOULDER, CO -- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is on Monday, and there are a variety of celebrations planned across the county to honor the civil rights leader. Many public buildings and government offices will be closed or have modified hours for the holiday, so be sure to check our local guide for any changes near you.

  • Boulder -
    • CU will be hosting "Remembering His Life, Renewing His Legacy" on Monday, Jan. 21. A reception and conversations will be held from 3 to 4 p.m., followed by a community celebration from 4 to 5 p.m. The event will be held in the University Memorial Center Glenn Miller Ballroom. No-charge parking is available on campus on Jan. 21.
    • St John's Episcopal Church, at 1419 Pine St., will be holding a full day of events:
      • From 10 a.m–5 p.m., the Boulder hapter of the NAACP will present films of Dr. King’s speeches and interviews, followed by an informal discussions.
      • From 11 a.m.–12:45 p.m., there will be a rally with speakers, music, and a parade that will pass through downtown Boulder, organized by the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center.
      • From 1–3 p.m., the youth-led “Martin Luther King Day: A Racial Justice Conversation” will explore themes of racial justice through graphic arts, research and poetry.
      • From 3–5 p.m., Boulder Showing Up for Racial Justice will present a workshop to help participants better understand the ways in which systemic racism permeates our society and learn tools for affecting change.
  • Lafayette -
    • The City of Lafayette will host its 14th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. March for Peace and Celebration, organized by the Lafayette Youth Advisory Committee. On Monday, Jan. 21, the event will begin with a pre-march celebration at Angevine Middle School, at 1150 W South Boulder Road, followed by a community march, and culminating interactive activities at City Park, at the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center, 111 W. Baseline Road. Activities are weather dependent. More information is available here.
  • Longmont -
    • Silver Creek High School will be hosting a community celebration, which will include music, dancing, and family-friendly activities. Monday, 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
