Rabid Bat Found In South Boulder
A dog found the dead, infected bat near Mesa Elementary School.

BOULDER, CO -- Officials from Boulder County Public Health announced that a dead bat found near the intersection of Heidelberg and LeHigh in South Boulder last week was infected with rabies. The Daily Camera reports that according to Chana Goussetis, a spokeswoman for Boulder County Public Health, the bat had reportedly been in the area for a few days before a dog found it.

The dog's owner called animal control, and the bat was ultimately tested by Boulder County Public Health, where officials made the positive diagnosis.
"Fortunately, the dog had just received its rabies booster vaccination," Goussetis told the Camera. "We were concerned there was a likelihood kids could have played with it or animals had gotten to it. We wanted to make sure everyone was aware."
